Thailand: 9 Days in the Kingdom (2007)
by 55 great photographers
Over a period of nine days in January 2007, 55 photographers from all over the world gathered in Thailand to capture images of the kingdom at that precise moment in time. Nine of them were followed by film crews eager to capture with their own cameras the excitement, drama and laughs that went on behind the scenes.
By the time the shoot was finished, the 55 photographers had delivered to EDM (publishers Editions Didier Millet) over 80,000 digital images; and several thousand photos taken on film had been sent for processing.
In December 2007, His Majesty King Bhumibol Adulyadej, Rama IX, celebrated his 80th birthday. This event, significant both for His Majesty and for the people of Thailand, was marked by the publication of EDM’s Thailand: 9 Days in the Kingdom.
A unique set of talents was assembled for this project, including photojournalists, high-tech photographers, wild life and undersea photographers, aerial photographers, landscape photographers, portraitists and specialists in a variety of techniques and styles. Each photographer was given a carefully selected assignment to match his/her talents and the editorial needs of the book. They captured every aspect of Thai life, commerce, industrial development and culture at this moment in its history, to create a unique photographic record of the nation.
Thailand: 9 Days in the Kingdom showcased the best of these endeavours.
